Mighty Tieton

Properties

Mighty Tieton started to acquire buildings in 2005 and ended up with an eclectic assortment of commercial spaces. None had active, viable businesses operating in them. Several have been developed into functional spaces: Tieton Lofts, Mighty Tieton Warehouse, Book Arts Bindery, and Harvest Hall. The others include three storefronts that will require work, inspiration, and some investment to turn them into productive spaces.

Tieton Lofts

Tieton Lofts

This project set the direction of Mighty Tieton. Starting with the 1940s two-story masonry apple warehouse, Philip Christofides envisions creating fourteen generous, dramatic, and functional lofts that could be sold to a group of interesting artists, designers, and creative types. This group, in turn, would set the stage for the other Tieton endeavors. His concept is proving to work. All of the units have been sold, although one is available through Almon Realty in Yakima.

Mighty Tieton Warehouse

Tieton Lofts

Built in the 1960s and expanded in the 1970s, this forty-thousand-square-foot warehouse used to house fresh apples and pears in five cold controlled-atmosphere rooms. Long past their technological prime, these spaces needed to be reimagined for other purposes. Today, one room is used for long-term book storage for the University of Washington Press, Marquand Books, and Serindia Books. The Drachen Foundation uses another room for their storage and production facility. Trimpin uses one of the rooms for his artistic sculptures. Two of the spaces are rented for special events and fundraisers. The old packing-line rooms are now a woodworking shop, Goathead Press, the letterpress shop for Marquand Editions, and an office for Mighty Tieton. Some rooms are not fully utilized and could be available for the right idea and business proposal.

Cafe

This space is a cafe/tavern waiting to happen. It has a small apartment behind the cafe space.

Galeria Uno

The stout corner storefront facing the park was originally a variety store, but it hasn't been functional for many years. Mighty Tieton holds occasional and temporary art exhibits here. It could be refurbished relatively easily.

Galeria Dos

This modest building has been a grocery, a butcher shop, the post office, apartments, and a furniture refinishing shop. Right now, it houses temporary art exhibitions and installations. It needs substantial renovation to take advantage of its excellent location.
