Participating Artists

The inspiration for Mighty Tieton owes a lot to artists and the spirit of artistic creativity and resourcefulness. The following are a few of the artists who have contributed in various ways to the larger enterprise.

Sandra Dean Artist Sandra Dean is inspired by nature, music, and the high desert landscape around Tieton. She is the author of A Tree of Life.

Ali Fujino and Scott Skinner of the Drachen Foundation are internationally recognized for their work on kites: their history, cultural contexts, and uses in artistic expression and scientific research. In the coming years, the Drachen Foundation is hosting international art kite symposiums.

Robert C. Jones and Fay Jones are exceptionally accomplished painters. In addition to setting up studios in Tieton, Fay has built the Goathead Press printmaking studio and connects Mighty Tieton to the broader printmaking community.

John Kane is a photographer based in Seattle who specializes in photographs of the Western American landscape.

Catherine J. Lee is a painter based in Condon, Oregon. She was our first artist-in-residence in Spring 2008.

Allan Packer created a dazzling installation titled The Ozone Room in the Mighty Tieton Warehouse for the summer of 2008.

Yvonne Pepin is an artist and an assistant professor at the College for Women, Kuwait University.

Diego Samper is an artist and photographer from Bogota, Colombia. Currently based in Vancouver, B.C., Samper created Morph, a sculptural installation in a temporary gallery at Maple and Wisconsin across from Tieton park in June 2007, and he showed his book-arts work in 2008.

Matt Sellars is a sculptor who exhibits at Platform Gallery in Seattle. His barn sculptures are installed in the Mighty Tieton Warehouse.

Lori Talcott is a fourth-generation jeweler. Her art jewelry is collected around the world, and she teaches workshops in jewelry techniques in the United States and Norway.

Trimpin is an artist whose sculptures create music or tonal sensations that entertain, inspire, and transport. He is a MacArthur Grant Winner, he has been profiled in the New Yorker Magazine, and he has work installed in museums around the world. His Shh, Fire Organ and Bells of Tieton were featured at Art Takes Flight in Tieton in June 2007.
